Our latest policy paper highlights the significant economic losses Malaysia faces by excluding non-citizen children from formal education. The study estimates losses of 4.00% to 9.49% of Malaysia's GDP in 2025 due to this exclusion. This paper advocates for integrating these children into public education as both a moral imperative and a critical economic strategy, especially given Malaysia's ageing population. It argues that excluding these children limits their earning potential, shrinks the tax base, and hinders the country's progress towards high-income status. Immediate reforms to ensure equal education access for all children are necessary investments for Malaysia's economic future.
