SWRC-ADB Capacity Building Workshop: Conducting a Large-Scale Survey on Older Persons – Experience from MARS, 7-9 December 2021

SWRC conducted a 3-day virtual workshop entitled “Capacity Building Workshop: Conducting a Large-Scale Survey on Older Persons – Experience from MARS” in collaboration with Asia Development Bank (ADB) on 7-9 December 2021.

The objectives of the workshop are:-
1. To understand the framework for conducting longitudinal, large-scale survey involving older adults
2. To establish the baseline components and survey design
3. To plan for a national survey on older adults that is comparable with other countries in the Asian region.
4. To learn the experiences of MARS and other countries.

About 35 participants from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam have participated and benefitted from this workshop. This workshop was conducted mainly through lecture sessions and group discussions where participants shared their experiences in conducting surveys in their respective countries. Quizzes were given throughout the training to gauge the understanding of participants. At the end of each day, participants were grouped by their respective countries to develop a proposal to conduct a survey on older persons in their own country. Each country representative presented their proposal on ageing research on the last day of the workshop. Overall, the workshop was a fruitful event with many sharing and interactive sessions among the participants and speakers from various countries.
