Prof Datuk Norma Mansor, Director, SWRC suggests that the savings from targeted subsidies be used to fund universal pensions and child grants. She proposes a pension of RM300 for all citizens aged 65 and above, regardless of income level. To ensure that the wealthy do not benefit from this, she suggests verifying their income status using data from the Inland Revenue Board or Employees Provident Fund. Additionally, she proposes a child grant of RM150 per child. If there are sufficient savings, she also suggests introducing a maternity grant for mothers in their second trimester.
